In August 2019, Muaythai Ontario worked with Marrissa Mathews of the Omushkegowuk Cree, Eagle and Turtle Clan from Kapuskasing in a bid to establish a Muaythai program at The Indigenous Network (TIN) in Mississauga. This program began a 6-week pilot, and then regular weekly classes with a dedicated group of students. It was a proud moment to see this class come to fruition. After all, it had been one of the programming priorities of Muaythai Ontario President, Kru Jenypher Lanthier.

To further grow and build this program, Muaythai Ontario applied for funding support under the Sport Support Program, Sport for Social Development in Indigenous Communities.

Today, Muaythai Ontario is proud to announce that the application for funding was approved by the Government of Canada! The funding of $14,590 will go towards the operations and programming, and will improve the Muaythai learning experience for Indigenous students.

Thank you to all the support from the Muaythai community thus far in the procurement of equipment for our new nak muay.
